The Shotgun Fields are Open to Members and the Public during scheduled times. There is no informal shooting at the Skowhegan Sportsmans Club Shotgun Fields.
The activities consist exclusively of shooting shotguns at aerial targets (clay “birds”) in organized games such as, by way of example and not of limitation, skeet, trap, and five-stand (when completed). These events take place on fixed stations. Shooters unfamiliar with the particular game wherein participation is sought should advise the person(s) monitoring and/or participating in the activity. Skowhegan Sportsmans Club does not provide ammunition or shotguns. To participate, each shooter must provide his/her shotgun with proper ammunition and must know how to safely operate the shotgun, specifically, without limitation, to open the action, load, unload, clear jams, and carry. If you see something unsafe or have a question about safety, say something!
The following rules apply to all persons in or about the Club property:
- Treat every gun as though it is loaded. Action must be open on your shotgun unless you are on your station shooting.
- Always point the gun muzzle in a safe direction. A safe direction is either downrange or at the ground in front of you.
- Always keep the gun action open unless you are on the shooting station and ready to shoot.
- No part of a shell shall be inserted into the gun unless you are on the shooting station with both feet and the gun is pointed downrange.
- After taking your shots, open the action while the gun is still pointed downrange and remove all shells before turning to step off of the station.
- If there is a delay in shooting, open your gun and remove the shells until the problem is resolved.
- All guests must sign a Liability form and Eye and Ear protection is mandatory.
- No shot larger than Size 7 ½ is permitted, please take care of all trash (hulls, boxes, otherwise). Failure to follow rules will result in losing your privilege to shoot at this club.
